courage

for a short scene in the book, "A Long Walk to Water" the main character Salva is tempted to join the rebellion to fight in the war around his country. there are enlistors where he ends up at one point and though hesitant he decides to try and join, but is shot down by one of the enlistors for being to young, the enlistor claps him on the shoulder and says, "dont be so quick to grow up." this showed courage in Salva that though young and though he dint really want to do it he tried anyway because its right for him to fight for his freedom. this heroic act reminded me of someone very close to me, who without i would not be alive. my grandfather, was seventeen years old when his brother joined the army to go fight in world war II and service his country. being stubborn and not wanting to let his brother go my grandpaw enlisted under a false age and became a tail gunner in a B32 bomber. he served his country well due to his love for his brother and the courage he had in order to serve at such a young age. salva did not get away with enlisting but my grandpaw did and this story just reminded me of grandpaw though it was a very short scene in the story.

3rd quarter blog intro!!!

hey gals an pals! its 3rd quarter and here we are on thursday january 12, 2012 kicking off the first blog to the new quarter. this time i am reading the book "a long walk to water." this book takes place in africa and is a very thrilling and scary book knowing its based on a true story and that things like this happen every day. a lot of people take living in america for granted but in other places of the world, like Africa, its hard to even learn or do anything because there is war going on all around. after watching movies and what not involving this kind of place i never really thought of it to be so serious but as iv grown up an started looking at the world in a new light i understand that this is very real and some extremeley messed up stuff takes place in our world and everything isnt just rainbows and butterflies like a lot of people think. i feel as though this book could open the mind of those who built a barrier around themselves and assume everything is perfect. this book may shed a new light of evil and rip them from their pedistool they perch so high on. i would recommend reading this book for those who would like to have a taste of what really happens in our world and what you may just be kept away from, and im not even done with the book!
